M.S. Students

Admission to the Master’s Program in Forensic Science is based on evaluation of scholastic record, letters of recommendation, performance on the Graduate Record Examinations, and a personal statement.

 

M.S. Application Deadline and Program Schedule

For Fall Admission, Application Deadline: Submit your application by April 1 for priority considerationApplications that are submitted after April 1 may still be considered based on enrollment availability.
For Spring Admission, Application Deadline: Nov 1 

M.S. Admission Requirements and Application Steps

To be eligible for admission to the M.S. Forensic Science program, individuals must:

  • Possess a Baccalaureate Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related field from an accredited university; a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 is required
    • Students applying to the program should have completed a course in Organic Chemistry with a laboratory component.  Other recommended courses include biochemistry, genetics, and analytical/instrumental chemistry. 
    • Students whose baccalaureate degree is not in a natural science must have completed all of the following courses:
1 semester General Biology
1 semester Cell/Molecular Biology
2 semesters General Chemistry
2 semesters Organic Chemistry
1 semester Biochemistry
1 semester Chemistry Lab
1 semester Biology Lab
Other recommended courses include advanced topics in DNA and/or Genetics and advanced topics in Chemistry.
  • Submit one official transcript from each post-secondary school attended
  • Submit a Personal Statement and C.V. summarizing academic and professional achievements; the personal statement should address your interest in forensic science and your career objectives
  • Submit a Writing Sample that demonstrates your academic writing
  • Two letters of recommendation from university faculty members who know you well or from research/laboratory supervisors/investigators
    • At least one of the letters should be from faculty
  • Pay the application fee

Submit results from the GRE Graduate Record Examination to be considered for Scholarships, Assistantships or Awards. Results from the General or Chemistry test are accepted Our GRE Institution code 2790

International Applicants

The Forensic Science program welcomes applications from qualified international students. International students must submit additional documentation.

As part the admissions process, international applicants must include with their application:

  • Official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
    • TOEFL: The minimum internet-based TOEFL score is 79. Rutgers TOEFL code: 2765

International applicants apply for a visa after they have been admitted and accept Rutgers-Camden’s offer of admission.

 

Non-Matriculating & Other Students

The Forensic Science program invites students of all educational experiences to apply to our program. We accept applications from Non-Matriculating students, former Rutgers students who would like to re-enroll and current Rutgers students interested in changing schools.
